Add or replace background music

3 min readUpdated October 12, 2026

In short

Import a compatible audio track, choose its starting point within the file and adjust the edit’s volume. Distinguish this music from scene audio, then listen to a freshly rendered preview. Check the opening, transitions and ending so the chosen segment accompanies the full sequence.

Choose a track

  1. In Video Editor, open Audio and choose an MP3, WAV or M4A file accepted by import. You can also use video media containing a usable audio track.
  2. Wait for media validation. The chosen track replaces the project’s background track; original scene sounds have their own settings.

The Import audio area opens file selection. Check the displayed track name after validation to avoid working with an old import. If the file is rejected or unavailable, read the error before continuing: selecting a file alone does not make its track ready for export.

Adjust audio

Set Track volume between 0% and 100%. Track start is the playback position within the imported file, not a delay before music starts on the timeline. Choose a segment long enough to cover the edit.

Click outside each edited value, then wait for saving. The start point must stay within the file and leave enough audio for the project’s duration. The field accepts starts up to sixty seconds, subject to sufficient remaining duration; a rejected value comes with a message.

Example: choose a musical segment

Fictional example: your montage lasts ten seconds and the imported music thirty seconds. Track start at 0:05 uses the file’s fifth through fifteenth seconds from the beginning of the montage. It does not insert five seconds of silence before the music.

Start with moderate volume and listen to the complete video. If the source contains useful speech, check that it remains understandable. Music preview helps choose the segment; only a new montage preview lets you check the mix with scene sounds.

Listen to the current version

Preview the track, wait for Auto-saved and rebuild the full preview to check its mix with the scenes. Use media authorized for your creation. Audio import does not generate AI voiceover.
