Fix sync issues between text and audio

3 min readUpdated October 12, 2026

In short

Identify the mismatch in a recent preview, then distinguish text timing, clip start and the chosen music segment. Correct the relevant setting and rebuild the preview. Text timing is relative to its scene; listening to raw media alone does not verify the complete edit.

Identify the mismatch

Select the affected scene. Check its duration and where it starts in the edit. Text timing is relative to that scene, while the background track runs across the project.

Also check whether you are watching a current complete preview or only the scene’s media. Previewing a music file does not show your text timing. For an accurate diagnosis, use the saved montage’s render and identify where text should accompany the action or speech.

Adjust settings

  1. In Text, edit Overlay timing to place the message over the right action. Keep start and end within the scene’s duration.
  2. In Audio, check Track start: it chooses where the segment begins in the music file. Adjust volume if the track masks original sound. After reordering or trimming, check these relationships again.

If the problem comes from where the video excerpt begins, inspect Trim and Clip start rather than Track start. Clip start chooses the segment in that scene’s media; Track start chooses the music segment. Both can show similar seconds while referring to different files.

Example: align a message with an action

Fictional example: a scene starts at the fifth second of the montage, but the useful action occurs two seconds into it. Text should therefore start around 0:02 in that scene’s Overlay timing and appear around the montage’s seventh second. Entering 0:07 in a short scene’s relative field would be incorrect.

After correction, watch a few seconds before and after the action. Text may align with an image yet be too brief to read, or arrive before the speech it summarizes. Adjust display duration within the scene, then check the saved preview again.

Review the saved version

Wait for Auto-saved and rebuild the preview. An old preview does not reflect recent edits. Watch the passage and its neighbors at normal speed before export; these settings do not apply automatic synchronization correction.
